Eggy Bread: Munchachos Style

Munchachos Chomps Elisé: how do you eat yours?

Sometimes it’s hard to come up with exciting lunches for your children so why not dip into your Munchachos box and use our delicious snacks to provide a healthy accompaniment to a classic dish? For example, why not sacrifice your soldiers and, instead, dip our French snacks, the Chomps Elisé, into a lovely runny boiled egg. Really with this dish, the egg has to be JUST the right amount of runny. Here are our tips to make sure your yolk is no joke.

Step 1: put a pan of water on the hob

Step 2: when the water is bubbling lower in your egg using a slotted spoon

Step 3: set the timer for EXACTLY 5 minutes

Step 4: once the time is up use the slotted spoon to get the egg out of the pan and tap it at the top immediately with a teaspoon to stop it cooking

Step 5: peel off the upper part of the shell, chop off the top of the egg, and there you have it! START DIPPING!!

Hungry for Hummus!

Munchachos Snacks Children: World Curiosity Hummus

We absolutely love hummus here at Munchachos HQ. It is full of fibre, protein, vitamins and minerals. Most importantly though, it incredibly delicious! We can never get enough of it and find every excuse to eat more hummus. We use it as a dip for our munchables and our carrots and a spread for our toast.

Are you hungry for hummus and ready to make some of your own?

For this you will need:

A can (300g) of chickpeas

A clove of garlic

50 ml of extra virgin olive oil

2 tablespoons tahini paste

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 lemon

Now for the fun part:

Got all your ingredients? Washed your hands? Called your grown up for help? Perfect, lets get making!

Drain the chickpeas and rinse them with running water. Pour them into a blender. In your blender, add your garlic clove, olive oil, tahini paste and ground cumin. Now it is time to use your muscles. Grab the lemon and squeeze the juice into the blender. Now start blending until the chickpeas transform into a smooth paste. It is really that simple!

Pro Tip #1: If your hummus is a bit thick, add some water and blend a bit longer. Be careful not to add too much water!

Now pour your hummus into your serving bowl.

Pro Tip #2: Decorate your hummus with some olive oil and a bit or paprika.

Hole Guacamole!

Munchachos Snacks Children: World Curiosity Mexico Cha Cha Chips Guacamole

(pronounced Holi Gwakamoli….)

Hola Munchachos!

Today we are going to show you how to make real deal Mexican guacamole, packed with nutrients and deliciousness!

The recipe could not be easier, so get the whole family involved.

For this you will need (feeds 6 Munchachos):

2 extra mushy, extra ripe, large avocados, preferably the Haas kind which are black on the outside and smooth and rich on the inside. If the ones you find are a little small, that’s ok, just throw in an extra one!

2 juicy limes

1 large tomato – not too soft

1 handful of cilantro (aka coriander), pick the biggest hand you have at home!

A pinch of salt and pepper

Some Mariachi music playing in the background to get you in the mood.

Now for the fun part:

Cut the avocados in half and pit them (that means take out the big pip – it doesn’t taste very good). Scoop out the delightfully mushy green flesh with a spoon and put it in a bowl. Squeeze the juice of the first lime over this and mash it with a fork. Keep some chunks in to give it texture! Cut the tomato in half and scoop out the wet interior. Wash the tomato thoroughly and then dice the tomato into small pieces – mind the tiny fingers! Chop the handful of cilantro (stalks are fine, but don’t get too much of them in there, leaves are tastiest!). Add the tomato, cilantro, salt and pepper (to taste) and the second lime’s juice to the bowl and get everything singing together! (Ay caramba!) If you have brave little ones at home, add some chilli (flakes or very finely chopped fresh jalapenos – pronounced HA-LA-PE-NIOZ!)

This is the partner in crime for our Cha Cha Chips! But, you can also enjoy it with a delicious piece of brown toast for brekkie or as a side to your chicken or fish meals!

Fun fact: Avocados are very high in omega 3 fatty acids – the good kind of fat – and contain many essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B5, vitamin K, fibre, magnesium and potassium!

Pro Tip #1: To avoid the browning, wrap your avocado in cling film or squeeze some lemon juice on it!

Pro Tip #2: Before cutting the limes in half and squeezing out the juice, set them down on a hard surface, open your palm and place it on the lime. Squeeze the lime and roll it backwards and forwards (pretend you’re a DJ, extra brownie points for holding your other hand by your ear!)

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!

Munchachos Snacks Children: Winner Winner Chicken Dinner Roasty Toasties

Cheerio Munchachos!

Today we are going to show you how to make our scrumptious lemony chicken. The Munchachos can never have enough of this dish, especially on a winter’s day!

For this you will need (feeds 4 Munchachos):

4 chicken breasts

1 juicy lemon

4 table spoons of olive oil

2 pinches of salt and pepper

Sprinkle of dried oregano

Now for the fun part:

Turn the oven on to 200 C. While the oven is warming up, let’s get this party started – preparation is everything! Place the chicken breasts in a baking tray. Squeeze the lemon juice over the chicken breasts and sprinkle them with olive oil, salt, pepper and oregano. Look outside the window, imagine it is drizzling lemony olive oil, hailing salt and pepper and snowing oregano! Wouldn’t you want to be getting ready to go into a hot oven too?! Now get stuck in there! Rub the seasoning into the chicken breasts and pop the tray in the oven for about 45 minutes. You could spend this time solving the eternal question, “what came first, the chicken or the egg?” Or better yet, you could have fun on our app and beat your top score!

Finally, serve your chicken for your family or friends to devour – this is the Munchachos’ favourite part! This warm and nutritious meal is the ultimate pairing to our quintessentially British Roasty Toasties Munchables.

Fun Fact: Chicken is a fantastic source of healthy and lean protein, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and energy — perfect for growing children. It is an extremely versatile protein that can be turned into a warming bowl of soup, refreshing salad or soothing roast!

Pro Tip #1: You know your chicken is well cooked when you pierce it with a knife and juices run clear!

Pro Tip #2: Add some chopped carrots and potatoes to your tray to keep your chicken company in the oven. It’s a Roasty Toasties party in there!
