What is Fairtrade Fortnight?
Fairtrade Fortnight is an annual campaign that takes place every year to promote and celebrate Fairtrade products. This year the Fortnight runs from 25th February to 10th March. This year, Fairtrade Fortnight will focus on cocoa and cocoa farmers. Did you know that a large portion of the world’s cocoa is grown in West Africa?
How Did Fairtrade Fortnight Start ?
Fairtrade Fortnight began in Edinburgh in 1997 and is now celebrated in a number of countries around the world including Canada, Australia and New Zealand. There are 4,500 Fairtrade Labelled products available for sale from food and drink to homeware and fashion.
Fairtrade Foundation has created a Schools Action Guide so that you too can celebrate your commitment to Fairtrade products and also support the rights of the farmers who harvest the cocoa to create the chocolate we love so much! You could bake with Fairtrade chocolate or organise an assembly!
