Today is China’s national day (October 1st). Today is also the perfect day to grab a bag of Long Tong Noodles and learn more about this fascinating country. As we started feeding our curiosity about China, we came across the Chinese dragon. We had to find out more! Below are 5 things we found most interesting about the Chinese dragon:
- Power and Strength: Dragons represent power and strength. The dragon was the symbol of the Emperor of China. The Emperor used to sit on the dragon throne!
- Anatomy: The dragons are made up of 9 other animals: the head of a camel, the horns of a stag (male deer), the eyes of a demon, the ears of a cow, the neck of a snake, the belly of a clam, the scales of a carp, the claws of an eagle and the paws of a tiger. Can you spot all these animals in the image below?
- Weather: The dragons are believed to control the weather. Farmers would make offerings to the dragons to make sure their land received enough rain and that they had a good harvest.
- Water: Chinese dragons are said to live at the bottom of seas, rivers, lakes, or anywhere with water. They are also the rulers of these bodies of water.
- Dragon Dancing: The dragon dance is most often performed during Chinese New Year. Dragons are believed to bring good luck and the longer the dragon in the dance, the more luck it will bring! What do you think of this dragon dance?
